Ohio and its ability to grow algae for biodiesel

Algae for BiodieselThe public is invited to hear about Ohio’s new and expanding capability to intensively grow and harvest algae for conversion to biodiesel and bioresins at a presentation to be held at Hocking College’s Logan Campus, 30260 Industrial Park Drive, Logan, Ohio, on April 17 at 9 a.m.

  • Brad Couch, projects and policy director for Clean Fuels Ohio, giving an overview of Clean Fuel Ohio’s alternative fuels work and how algae incorporates into its mission of increasing the use of cleaner American fuels and vehicles.
     
  • Ben Stuart, director of the Biofuels Research Lab at Ohio University, describing projects at the college which have grown algae as feedstock over the last several years, and discussing new growth opportunities in the industry.
     
  • Ross Youngs, CEO of Univenture in Marysville, and developer of a system to generate up to 20 new companies in Ohio producing algae feedstock for use in biodiesel and other bio-oil products.
     
  • Doug Kitchen, president of Chieftain Biofuels, a biodiesel processing plant in Hocking County that uses soybeans to create biodiesel as well as high protein food meal for livestock, discussing processing of oils or creation of biofuels.
